pkg. devil's food cake mix without pudding--I'm not sure why the "no pudding" is important and I'm not sure it is.
1 (8 oz) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 (6 oz) pkg. semisweet chocolate morsels (optional--I don't usually use these, the cream filling is spectacular enough).
Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Spoon batter into paper-lined muffin pans, filling 2/3 full. Combine cream cheese and sugar, creaming until light and fluffy. Add egg, beating well; stir in chocolate morsels (if using). Spoon cream cheese mixture into center of each cupcake. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until done. Remove from pans and let cool on wire racks. Frost as desired. Makes 22-24 cupcakes.
